Students of Distinction Program
After two years of seeing the successful ‘Challenge Grant’ grant of guidance counselor Kim Kozak, entitled “Students of Distinction”--that has been very well received in the high school. Former executive director Richard W. Snyder II recognized that Ms. Kozak’s project aligned directly with our Foundation’s objective to “reward students for academic ability.”
This generally impacts every high school faculty member by having each educator select a student whom they feel has outdone themselves in their class, etc.—not necessarily the top student, but someone quite worthy of being honored. Selected students and their parents are invited to school during an in-service day afternoon, where they are treated to a small luncheon and a brief discussion about why the teacher chose that students to honor. The board of directors voted in April 2019 to make Mrs. Kozak’s program a permanent fully-funded project of the Glendale Education Foundation--and has increased the budget to $875 annually.
